Lives and works in Bolton, UK.
Thaleia Kavvada explores the relationships between the concepts of life and death, memory and oblivion, being and nihility, through a variety of mediums and found objects. Her work seeks to foster connective strands between art and contemporary life, taking a critical view of social and political issues. Through the concepts of symbolism and dualism as key features, she discusses the alienation and loss of identity of contemporary man.
Her most recent works have been influenced by the refugee crisis and the immense numbers of drowned refugees in the Mediterranean Sea. Creating unnerving, but at the same time melancholic and poetic installations, the artist attempts to raise public consciousness about these issues, inspiring self-reflection, thought and human connection.
